Percentage is a chapter in Maths, It has many applications in daily life.

Watch following percentage videos :👇

Introduction to percentage:👇

Finding discount:👇

Example 1: Lets suppose you are going to medical store, they have charged you 1000 for purchasing medicines & you have asked them 10 percent discount.

How to find discount ?

formula for this:

amount x discount percent / 100

Total amount= 1000

Discount percent = 10

Solution:

1000 x 10 / 100=100

you have to pay 900 if you have been given a 10% discount.

Example 2: An other type of question that you find in each job test from BPS-05 to BPS-17:

40% of 500 is ?

formula for its solution=

 amount x percent  / 100.

Solution:

500x40/100=200.

Answer= 40% of 500 is 200.

Example 3: Other example is of paying taxes where we deal with percentage, GST in Pakistan (General sales tax )  is 17%, if any product is of 17000, then:

Formula:

Product price x sales tax percent / 100

solution:

17000 x 17 / 100=2890

17000+2890= 19890

Answer:

If original price of a product is of 17000 & sales tax is 17%, then a person will have to pay 19890 along with sales tax.

Example 4:

In the STB (Sindh Text Book), other widely discussed topic is of zakat, which is 2.5% of total amount, lets suppose someone has property of 5 lakhs, its solution formula is

total amount x zakat rate (2.5) divide by 100, so zakat on it will be:

500000x2.5/100=12500.

Example 5:  In the job tests we have been asked about the original price, lets suppose we have purchased any product in 300 after a 30% discount, what was its original price before discount ?

Formula: subtract 30 from 100: 100-30=70

multiply final price by 100 and then divide it by 70(that we got by subtracting 30 from 100)

solution:

300x100/70=428.5

Answer:

before discount of 30%, original price of that product was 428.5.

Example 6:

Sometime we have been given zakat rate & amount paid as zakat, asked for property a personal holds, lets suppose Fahad pays 5000 Zakat.

Zakat rate=2.5

Amount Paid for Zakat= 5000

Property=?

Formula= 5000x100/2.5

Here 2.5 is in division while 100  in multiplication, Its reverse of previous formula, when we were finding amount of zakat, through given property.

Solution:

5000x100/2.5

500000/2.5

We can add an additional zero in 500000 to get rid of decimal point from 2.5 ,

Answer:

5000000/25

200000

If a person pays 5 thousand in zakat, his total property is 2Lakhs when zakat rate is 2.5

Example:7

Sometime we are asked about the percentage of our marks in matric and intermediate in our daily life, learning this may also be helpful for qualifying job tests.

Lets suppose total marks in matric are 850, you have obtained 600 marks, now we have to find percentage of your marks.

Formula:

obtained marks x 100 / total marks

Solution:

600 x 100 / 850 = 70.5.
