 Basics of Networking

Connection of computers with one another for sharing resources & information is called Network. as we perceive today that because of information technology, sharing information from one place to other became very easy.

Scope of networking:

LAN (Local Area Network): When computers are attached to one an other & share data / resources within a office or school in short or limited area is local area Network.

MAN (Metropolitan Area Network): When computers are attached to one an other & share data / resources from a city to an other city is metropolitan area Network.

WAN(Wide Area Network): When computers are attached to one an other & share data / resources from a part of world to other part of world is wide area network, its example is internet which connects the whole world.

PAN (Personal Area Network): Though its part of local area network, but some books explain it individually, when two people share data with one another through a bluetooth or zapya application, it will then called personal area network.

IP address (Internet Protocol):

If we want to interact with any one through mobile, we will contact them through their mobile no., by the same way to interact with a device through internet or local Area Network, we need their IP address, because each device that comes on internet owns an IP address. IP stands for "Internet Protocol,".

What is Protocol ?: Its the set of rules governing the format of data sent via the internet or local network. As we see today mostly all smart-phones used in Pakistan uses Android as operating system & they all use same mobile chargers, as in the condition, if we sell our smart-phone, no need to purchase charger each time or family members may use chargers of one an other, so this agreement between all companies i-e (Samsung, Vivo, Oppo) to make same chargers is actually a protocol or agreement. So, before sharing data on internet, the protocol are set that each device & each operating system may send and receive data on internet.

ISP (Internet Service Provider):

The term Internet service provider (ISP) is a company that provides Internet services to both individuals & companies.

Largest ISP in Pakistan is PTCL (Pakistan telecommunication company ltd.)
