CSS Exam & Selection Process
The CSS (Central Superior Services) examination is a competitive examination conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) of Pakistan. It is held to recruit individuals for various civil service positions in the country. The CSS examination consists of both compulsory and optional subjects.
The compulsory subjects for the CSS examination include:
English Essay
English (Precis and Composition)
General Science and Ability
Current Affairs
Pakistan Affairs
Islamic Studies or Comparative Study of Major Religions (For Non-Muslims)
Optional subjects (choose from a list provided by the FPSC)
In addition to these subjects, there is also a psychological assessment and viva voce (interview) as part of the selection process.
To become a CSS officer in Pakistan, you need to go through the following stages:
Submission of Application: You need to submit an online application to the FPSC during the announced application period.
Written Examination: If your application is accepted, & You pass the MPT (MCQs based Preliminary Test) you will be eligible to appear in the written examination. The written examination consists of both compulsory and optional subjects.
Medical Examination: Candidates who pass the written examination are required to undergo a medical examination to ensure they meet the physical and medical standards set by the government.
Psychological Assessment: After the medical examination, candidates undergo a psychological assessment, which includes tests and interviews to evaluate their mental and psychological suitability for the civil services.
Viva Voce (Interview): Candidates who clear the psychological assessment are called for a viva voce, which is an interview conducted by a panel of experts. This interview assesses the candidate's personality, knowledge, and overall suitability for the CSS.
Final Selection: Based on the performance in the written examination, medical examination, psychological assessment, and interview, the FPSC prepares a final merit list of successful candidates. Those who rank high enough are selected for various civil service positions in Pakistan.
It's important to note that the CSS examination is highly competitive, and the selection process is rigorous. Candidates need to prepare thoroughly and demonstrate a strong understanding of the subjects, as well as possess the desired qualities and attributes required for civil service positions.
